News Release
Rescinding of Health Advisory
In collaboration with Johnson County Wastewater and Johnson County Environmental Department, the Johnson County Health Department has lifted a health advisory to residents living or recreating near a small tributary stream of Indian Creek that was originally issued after a break in the sewer line. The sanitary sewer line is in the general vicinity of 104th and Cody, in the City of Overland Park.
The Johnson County Health Department issued the first advisory on April 10, 2003, to radio, TV stations and newspapers for residents living or recreating near the stream.
Recent test results have confirmed that this creek is no longer affected by the release of sewage from a break in the sewer line, which occurred on April 10, 2003. However, residents should be aware that there may be areas with elevated bacterial counts caused by sources such as wildlife, pets and urban run off, and should continue to use caution and practice good hygiene when coming in contact with any urban streams.
