Rescinding of Health Advisory
In collaboration with Johnson County Wastewater and Johnson County Environmental Department, the Johnson County Health Department has lifted a health advisory to residents living or recreating near a small tributary stream of Mill Creek due to a blockage in the sewer line. The sanitary sewer line is in the general vicinity of 119th Street and Ridgeview Drive, south of the Santa Barbara Mobile Home Community, in the City of Olathe.
The Johnson County Health Department issued the first advisory on December 30, 2002, to radio, TV stations and newspapers for residents living or recreating near the stream.
Recent test results have confirmed that this creek is no longer affected by the blockage in the sewer line, which occurred on December 30, 2002. However, residents should be aware that there may be areas with elevated bacterial counts caused by natural sources such as wildlife, pets and urban run off, and should continue to use caution and practice good hygiene when coming in contact with any urban streams.
