Johnson County Wastewater
HEALTH ADVISORY
AVOID CONTACT WITH CREEK WATER
Near the Royse Swimming Pool Until Further Notice
On Tuesday October 19, 2004 clogged sewer pipe caused a manhole to overflow at 125th and State line discharging wastewater into the stream at that location. JCW crews have unclogged the sewer line and there is no current release of wastewater into the stream. The Johnson County Environmental Department is conducting water tests on the stream to monitor the water quality.
The manhole that was clogged is located downstream of Royse Lake. Based on visual observation there has been some contamination downstream of the lake into a pond on the east side of State Line.
The Johnson County Health Department issued a caution for residents living near the stream. The Health Department advises individuals to have no contact with the stream at this location for the next two weeks. Residents are also advised to keep their pets from making contact with the water. Should the testing mentioned above indicate a need for extending the caution, an additional notice will be released.
Residents should be aware that elevated bacterial counts can also be caused by natural sources such as rain, wildlife, pets and urban run off. Residents should continue to use caution and practice good hygiene when coming in contact with any urban stream.
