About GPS
Using new and emerging GIS technologies helps JCW keep pace with the rapid suburban development. It also helps us to maintain the existing sanitary sewer infrastructure that has been in place as far back as 1946. For detailed information on the sewer system, the engineering records are still referenced for exact locations.
AIMS is the name of Johnson County's GIS. Current and future utilization of AIMS and JCW's AIMS data layers greatly enhance our staff's ability to access up-to-date information concerning JCW's infrastructure without the use of paper maps. The use of GIS reflects an effort that crosses city, county, state and federal governments. It is truly a team effort on a very large scale.
JCW currently uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to field verify, and collect location and attribute data for sewer infrastructure dating back to 1946. Data collected in the field is processed and used to correct GIS base layers improving accuracy of the data used by JCW field crews.
