Geographical Positioning Systems Overview
About GIS
Using new and emerging technologies such as GPS and GIS helps JCW keep pace with the rapid suburban development. It also helps maintain the existing sanitary sewer infrastructure that has been in place as far back as 1948. For detailed information on the sewer system, the engineering records are still referenced for exact locations.
AIMS is the name of Johnson County's GIS. Current and future utilization of AIMS and JCW's AIMS data layers will greatly enhance our staff's ability to access up-to-date information concerning JCW's infrastructure without the use of paper maps. The use of GPS and GIS reflects an effort that crosses city, County, state and Federal governments. It truly is a team effort on a very large scale.
If you need more information or would like to request a sewer-related AIMS map from JCW, please contact Jim Bills, AIMS Coordinator, at 913-715-8552.
