SEPTEMBER 2008 JCW continues to garner Peak Performance recognition Johnson County Wastewater (JCW) received six Peak Performance Awards. The awards program, presented by the National Association of Clean water Agencies (NACWA), recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for their outstanding compliance records in the 2007 calendar year. JCW received three Gold Peak Performance Awards which honor treatment works that have achieved 100 percent compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit for an entire calendar year and three Silver Peak Performance Awards which recognize facilities that have received no more than five NPDES permit violations per calendar year. Recently recognized by the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners were: Gold Peak Performance Award recipients (196 total): -Blue River Main -Douglas L. Smith Middle Basin -Mill Creek Regional Silver Peak Performance Award recipients (155 total): -Myron K. Nelson -New Century AirCenter -Tomahawk Creek “Johnson County Wastewater is an outstanding example of environmental efforts. NACWA is honored to showcase the achievements of JCW and our nation’s public wastewater utilities through the Peak Performance Awards Program,” said Ken Kirk, NACWA’s executive director. A total of 103 treatment facilities from 64 agencies were also honored with Platinum Peak Performance Awards marking their 100 percent compliance for five or more years. This year NACWA paid tribute to a total of 453 facilities with Peak Performance Awards – the largest number awarded since the program began in 1997. NACWA was proud to recognize more than 400 Peak Performance Award facilities during the association’s 2008 Summer Conference and 38th Annual Meeting, held July 15-18, 2008 in Anchorage, AK. “This outstanding accomplishment signifies NACWA members’ commitment to environmental protection and wastewater treatment and represents the diligence and hard work of each agency’s employees,” Kirk said.
