Rob Kimmons named JCW's 2010 Employee of the Year

The rain event of June 14, 2010, holds a special meaning for JCW employees. In some parts of the county, flooding rivaled the infamous storm in October 2006.
Unfortunately, many JCW customers experienced not only flooding from storm sewer overflows, but sanitary sewer backup problems as well. The phones began ringing shortly after midnight early that morning, which signaled a scramble of employees answering the anguished calls for the next 24 hours.

Rob Kimmons, line cleaning crew leader, was tapped to work with a private insurance adjustor who was under contract with Johnson County Risk Management. Their difficult assignment was to work with distraught homeowners and determine, if possible, whether damage residents sustained to their homes that weekend was actually caused by JCW sanitary sewers as they claimed, or was it the fault of storm runoff and/or leaky basements, foundations and improperly installed drains.

In a very stressful situation, Rob stepped up to the plate and exhibited “every core value,” according to Vernon Schrock, cleaning and inspection superintendent. “Rob is truly a valuable asset to Johnson County, JCW, and the citizens that he works for, not only in this situation, but in his everyday work performance, as well.”

The STARS selection committee agreed and he was named the STARS recipient for the second quarter. But the recognition didn’t stop there. Rob was also named the department’s 2010 Employee of the Year at JCW’s recent Annual Employee Recognition Event. Congratulations, Rob!
