About Our Projects

Investing in Our Infrastructure

Johnson County is a thriving socially, economically and industrial community. This continued prosperity is strengthened by having reliable and sustainable wastewater networks with the capacity to support the community. The engineering department at JCW manages sewer design and construction projects throughout the county. These improvements are being built so that we can continue to provide you, our customers with reliable service.

Living With Construction

JCW does all it can to minimize the impact of sewer construction on people who live and work in project areas. Sometimes this work goes unnoticed because it often takes place underground. But occasionally, work must be done in streets or alleys near homes or businesses. We take care to reduce noise, dust, traffic, and any other potential construction nuisance to a minimum. We also meet with and mail updates to project neighbors before and during construction to get input and give progress reports.

Planning and Study

Infiltration & Inflow (I&I) Pilot Study is a pilot study needed to fill a critical gap in the data that exists relative to the system improvements necessary to adequately manage I&I, and in so doing meet both customer service goals and regulatory requirements. Sanitary sewer system performance within the Turkey Creek, Mission Main and Leawood Watersheds is impacted by the magnitude of wet weather flows that enter the sewer system. The wet weather flows are due to system defects and illicit connections that result in high rates of rainwater and groundwater entering the sewer system. This is called infiltration and inflow, or I&I (I and I). For more info >>>
Gardner Lake is a different sewer proposal from the last petition circulated in 2003. This proposed project will construct the main lines only without the grinder pump units (GPUs) for each home. Costs to construct the main lines will be far less expensive than having the GPUs installed at the same time. Once the project is complete, it is up to each individual homeowner to hire a contractor, obtain a permit, and connect to the main line at the homeowner's expense. This allows the property owner the availability of the sewers without having to connect to them right away. For more info >>>

Construction

The Lake Quivira Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation project is located in the City of Lake Quivira, Kansas. Existing sanitary sewers are located throughout the Lake Quivira community to provide sanitary service for residents. Because many of these sewer segments are approaching the end of their useful lives and/or do not meet current design standards to maintain and improve the level of service to the community, JCW plans to repair and upgrade many of the sewers throughout the community.
